And finally fall is here… somewhat like a colorful flash of nature, just before the white veil of winter covers it all. Here in the Swabian Jura in southern Germany, fall is especially colorful with all the mixed beech forests. It hardly falls short of the famous “Indian Summer” in Canada….<\/strong><\/p>\n

From a fly fishers perspective, it is similarly a last highlight, before all the waters of our area either freeze up or are closed for fishing, so that trout and grayling can spawn unmolested.
\nBut just now, fishing an hour or two in the warm October evening sun, is absolute pleasure. And the grayling bite really well as soon as you have found out what these little divas will have today.
\nfor the last few days, very simple golden beadhead nymphs worked well, and the greyling usually took them on the rise, rather than simply drifting them… The dead drift seems to work better when the water temperatures drop towards winter. But at the moment, it is still relatively warm. Dry flies haven’t been very successful so far, but their time will come… and we still have two weeks until our season closes.<\/p>\n
