A very simple pattern to tie and to fish, but VERY effective in the late evening hours. Especially when it is getting so dark that you can hardly see your fly, let alone tell if it is already degging or not, this fly lets you fish “by feel”. Get ready for some extremely ferocious takes, and you better use a stonger tippet… it is not seldom the biggest trouts of the river that are feeding deep into the night, even sucking frogs and mice from the surface.
Tying this fly requires only some deerhair and a brown dubbing. When you fish this pattern you have to slide it in a rythmic motione on the surface, imitating the behavior of sedge/caddis-flies. No need for a delicate presentation…
