CARP! Another one of those fish species, I haven’t yet given much attention and slowly getting the feeling that I have missed some excellent fishing! Especially now, when summer is reaching its peak, it is warm and sunny, those carps are getting really active!
The difficult thing about carp fishing is, that they are very cautious, but at the same time very strong. So concerning your leader you have to find a compromise between stealth and strength. For me, a rather long 0.30-0.35mm fluorocarbon leader has done the trick so far, but I still need to catch a really big one…
Also, you have to find out WHERE they are feeding… is it on the ground or on the surface? This carp in the picture was cruising around and eating something in the midst of the water column… So I tied on a small, light wooly bugger, and it instantly took it! A beautiful fish, very golden, and me very happy! Hope to catch some more of those during the next weeks.
