Barbels are really on fire at the moment! Recently I managed to catch my biggest one so far in the Danube River on a tiny nymph.

The fish was 75cm in length and fought extremely well! Besides this fish, I caught the occasional chub which is omnipresent in the Danube. Surpringingly I also caught two small browns, which are rather astonishing, as the water temperature gets a little warm towards summer and especially the small trouts have a hard time! Locals tell me that there are some underground wells which cool down the water in several areas of the river and thereby sustain a trout population… That was nice to hear, and I must admit time and again, that the Danube keeps surprising me!
