Aren’t grayling truely colorful? Why is it then, that the name “grayling” has its roots in the color “grey”, the french call it “l’ombre” which is “the shadow”, and the German name “Aesche” has to do with ashes?

Winter is approaching and the fins of our grayling seem to be getting more colorful every day. A tail like red wine, an adipose fin like a rainbow and pelvic fins resembling the wings of butterflies… Nature shows a very impressive set of colors here.
