meadowsweet and valerian

Posted on 13. August 2021 by Hannes N.

It has become warm, school is out and the kids playing out on the streets. In the evenings it smells like BBQ on every corner…. summer! The sun is only a mere hand above the horizon when I grab my fly fishing stuff and head […]

big time

Posted on 3. May 202110. February 2022 by Hannes N.

Where have all the big fish been in march and april? No matter where I went, I struggled to catch anything… and when I did, it were mostly the small ones… nothing beyond the “magic” 20in so far…and yes, I admit, I do enjoy stalking […]

Posted on 8. June 202027. June 2020 by Hannes N.

Mayflies are truely magical creatures. They are connected to big trouts and dryflies, but there is more about them…

mohican mayfly – CDC variation

Posted on 30. May 202031. May 2020 by Hannes N.

The “mohican mayfly” developped by Oliver Edwards is one of my favorites. This fly catches very well, it is almost unsinkable and holds up very well even after many hooked fish.

rites of spring

Posted on 3. April 20203. April 2020 by Hannes N.

Finally, the day has come! It is the opening day for trout in our region, and I have been preparing everthing in anticipation for several days now. And although I know that it does not make much sense, I have set my alarm clock early […]

spawning browntrouts

Posted on 30. November 201930. November 2019 by Hannes N.

In fall, fishing for brown trout closes as they begin to spawn – if they find suitable conditions, which has become a rarity. Increasing numbers of power plants and climate change has destroyed many populations, wild browntrout are hardly to be found anymore. Fishermen all […]

new video on mayflies and big trout

Posted on 4. July 20194. July 2019 by Hannes N.

My new video is ready – this time I managed to capture a good hatch of mayflies (Ephemera danica) and some absolutely stunning fish here in Southern Germany! Hope you enjoy the video.

sometime in spring

Posted on 8. April 20198. April 2019 by Hannes N.

Every year, sometime in spring, the trout seem to finally wake up and start a first great feast. When that is, can hardly be predicted… it probably depends on water flow, temperature, hours of sunlight and the general course of the past winter. This feast […]

Where to find big trout in spring…

Posted on 14. April 2018 by Hannes N.

Water is still high and murky, and not only me, but also my friends have difficulties finding trout. Nature is two weeks delayed this year – the month of march was rich in snow and the nights are still really cold. But today it was […]
